Arete Youth Foundation announces a call for scholarships for students of Roma origin

Since 2018 Arete Youth Foundation and our volunteers have been raising funds to support Roma youth. So far, the Foundation has given 12 scholarships to high school graduates. In 2023 Arete was also able to donate 10 scholarships to university students with high academic achievements.
On 22 November 2023, with the huge support of Lidl Bulgaria, the charity concert was an unexpected success. For the first time the initiative was recognized by the general public. The hall of City Mark Art Center was sold out.
For the second year in a row, scholarships will be given to both high school seniors and universuty students.
The selection of scholars will be in two stages:
I. Assessment of submissions and motivation to graduate.
II. Interview /Candidates from Sofia will be invited on-site at the Foundation’s office, and online interviews will be arranged with the others via the ZOOM platform.
Criteria for participation:
- Roma origin.
- Under 29 years of age.
- Full-time study.
- Motivation to work for the development of the Roma community and being a role model.
- Student should not receive a scholarship from another organization for the 2023/2024 academic year.
The documents required for participation in the competition are:
1. Completed application form, which can be found HERE.
2. Academic grade record /If the applicant is in first year of study, he/she needs to send a high school diploma/.
3. Certificate from the university where the student studies.
4. Cover letter /The cover letter answers the question “Why should I be selected?” in up to 250 words.
5. Essay on “Have I succeeded if I am ashamed of my origin?” /the essay must be at least 800 words long/.
6. GDPR declarations which – HERE и HERE.
Plagiarism automatically results in the application being dropped.
Deadline: February 15 2023.
